This woman faces death by hanging for killing her husband

The 52-year-old faces the death penalty if she is convicted of stabbing her husband to death

A BRIT woman facing the gallows after allegedly knifing her husband to death has appeared in court in Malaysia.

Samantha Jones looked pale and tired as she smiled at her sister and four relatives who waved from the public gallery of Langkawi magistrates court.

The 52-year-old was barefoot and handcuffed as she was told the next time she would leave her prison cell would be after Christmas.

The expat is accused of murder “with intent” of her 63-year-old husband John Jones, who died from a single stab wound to his chest.

Her lawyers claim Jones’ husband was violent and abusive and she had acted in self-defence.

Cops say they found a 12 inch kitchen knife at the couple’s bungalow which they believe to be the murder weapon.

This morning she hid her face as she was driven to court in a police minibus with four male prisoners, The Mirror reports.

In court she sat behind by a blue curtain next to heroin dealers and meth addicts who were also appearing in court.

Jones was dressed in a black T-shirt and dark blue bottoms.

She listened quietly as her case was adjourned again, leaving Samantha with the prospect of Christmas behind bars in a mixed jail on the mainland.

Her lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, who had flown from Kuala Lumpur to represent her, was told the case had to be delayed as the prosecution were still awaiting various chemical tests.

She was told a post mortem had now been completed.

Later her family, who had flown over from the UK, were allowed to take a bag of clothes and several books to her, before she was taken back to jail.

Following her arrest last month local police chief Mohamad Iqbal said: “The couple were believed to have engaged in an argument.

“The wife then took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her husband in the chest.”

After the incident Samantha fled to neighbours for help but it was too late and retired fire chief John was dead, it has been said.

The former insurance clerk is alleged to have killed her husband between 1am and 3am on October 18.

Magistrate Adibah Husna Zainal Abidin remanded her in custody until January 13th when she will return to Langkawi magistrates for another preliminary hearing.

Under current laws, a death sentence is mandatory for murder in Malaysia.
